Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say early analysis indicate the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.
City officials said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior official said the attack made him speechless and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
