England along with Welsh Drawn in the Same Group for RWC 2027 Down Under

Rugby World Cup 2027 draw ceremony
The pool stage draw was conducted by sporting legends including former All Black Dan Carter.

The English side and Wales have been drawn in an identical group for the 2027 RWC, setting up a major early clash in Australia. They are joined in Pool F by Tonga and the Zimbabwean Sables.

This pairing echoes their famous meeting in the group phase of the 2015 World Cup, where Wales' victory at England's home ground played a part in the hosts' surprise early exit.

Key Pool Pairings

The Irish alongside Scotland also share a pool once again, replicating the scenario from the 2023 edition. On that occasion, Ireland secured a 36-14 win, with their opponents failing to advance to the quarter-finals.

Los Teros and Portugal, both made a strong impression as underdogs in the last World Cup, complete that same group.

Significantly, the victors of these two groups cannot meet defending champions and top-ranked the Springboks before the showpiece match, presuming the Springboks win their assigned pool.

Knockout Implications

If the pools play out according to the current world rankings, further top favourites like New Zealand and France would remain separated from both the English and Ireland all the way to the final.

Under those circumstances, Los Pumas would be the other highly-seeded nation on the same half of the knockout draw as those northern hemisphere teams.

Tournament Hosts Draw Major Fixture

Hosts Australia find themselves alongside their great rivals and three-time winners the All Blacks in Pool A.

Australia will open the World Cup in Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a marquee fixture designed to launch the competition.

In other groups, holders the Springboks have been paired with the Azzurri, the Lelos and Romania. France are in a pool with the Brave Blossoms, 2031 hosts the USA and Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Argentina will face the Flying Fijians, Los Leones and Canada as the World Cup grows to twenty-four nations from the twenty who took part in 2023.

This edition will introduce a round of 16 round for the very first time in Rugby World Cup existence.

Although the victor of England and Wales's group may be kept apart from some of the game's heavyweights initially, they will meet the runner-up from Pool B – most likely Italy – in the last 16.

Four of the remaining six group winners will play a team that finished third from the initial group phase.
